Back to work

I can't believe that my summer vacation is comming to an end.  School registration is tomorrow which means I have to start thinking about setting my alarm clock and going to work again.

I did get some sewing done this summer.  I got a great start on the winter craftshow season, I got small quilts together now I just have to begin quitling them.  I also finished my Quilt of Valor, and my Soda Pop quilt-along.

I love it.  I have the back pieced and hope to start quilting it this weekend.  I've also started making hexgons for the Hexy MF quilt-along.  Quilt-alongs really make me keep focus on the end of the project.

I've been to Wonder-under Land

Yes, I have spent the last two weeks working on small quilts for the Winter Craft-show season.  This year I have tried to starch the facric before I fused and cut out the shapes to see if I got less fraying.  It worked.  I got this tip from the following blog http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/cutting-corners/2012/02/13/i-applique/.  The hardest part was finding Sta-Flo liquid starch.

I have also decided that I have lived in the Great North West for 10 years, when I moved here 10 years ago with my husband at the time it was only to be 2 years my how time flies when you love your work and have great friends.  I have made a decision it is time to move closer to family.  I have a two year plan only because it cost so much to move from Alaska.  Today I'm looking a Georgia, however I also love Charleston, South Carolina but who knows I only have two requirements (1) I can find a teaching job, (2) the housing markets is good as in I can buy a house that is big enough for all my stuff.

Here area a few pictures of the wall quilts that I have been working on

Rootbeer Float----Orange Soda Quilt along

It is a wonderful 70 degrees here today.  I did a little shopping and yard work, enjoying the sun.  I have blocks to start for my Sew Sew quilt group next week.  They are red, white and blue and the finished quilts will go to soldiers that are recovering before heading back on active duty.  The block that we choose was Arrowhead, I will post pictures as soon as I get them done.

I have also decided to join the Orange Soda Quilt along from the Fat Quarterly Shape Workshop for Quilters book.  Mine is a collection of fabric and charm packs.  It's call Rootbeer Soda, the contrasting fabric is a brownish gray---

It's Finally Summer! And I'm Back Quilting!!!!

It has been a long snowy winter here in Alaska.  I haven't posted in a very long time, I know.  Late Feb. I got that flu, cold thing that lasted until the last week of school.  I know I should have gone to the Dr. but I didn't.  During this time I did Quilt a little----- Pictures coming very soon.

While I was sick I decided that I was going to start using all the Kaffe Fassett fabric

I've been  collecting the last 10 years. So far I have all the blocks done for both quilts, next I have to begin putting them together.

Next week's project

Next week I have a 4 day weekend Whooooo HOOOOOOOO. One goal is to quilt this quilt

Baby Quilt & Whitney Houston

I'm the coordinator for my school's after-school program. There is one teacher that is always there when I need him to cover a class or teach extra enrichment sessions.  Mr. Kim you are the man.  I started this quilt 3 years ago.  I pulled it out of a box and put it together last week.  I hope he likes it.

I loved Whitney Houston she was the first African-American on the cover of Seventeen Magazine.  When I saw her on the cover she was beautiful--- all little brown girls around the world learned they too were beautiful.  Thank you Whitney.  Rest in Peace

This is also one of the quilts that is on my top 6 UFO projects, so this was a TWO-FER. I took a class that used the book Quilted Symphony last fall and it's done!!!

2012 Top 6 UFO

In one of the many quilting groups that I belong to (hmmmm this could be the reason that I don't get as much done as I want) but that will be another post. In this group we have decided to pick 12 UFO and get them completed this year. I wanted to start with my top 6 once they are done and my last 6 UFO projects. Here we go in the order I want to work on them.

1. Is a project that was started 3 years ago when my quilt guild had Cara Gulati come and teach 3-D Explosion. Mine is almost done I just need to sew the cones down and quilt the background. I just hope the take reside comes out.

2. Two Summers ago I joined a newly formed Modern Quilt Guild. I didn't say long but at one of the meeting a woman shared how to make cathedral window blocks. I loved this block and it was soooo. So I when out and found a book, some great fabric, I had the center cream silk in my stash. Well I have bolt of it I found at JoAnn's for $2.00 a yard--- I have to get all of it, Right?? Who could leave silk on the table of misfit fabric??? Well I need to quilt it I have been thinking about hand quilting it----

3. This is from a class that I took from my good friend Maria Shell. I will share some of her work later in this blog. This class was all about curved piecing. I cut so many strips that I made 2 quilts. I'm only putting one in the top 6----

4. Is a top I made from the Gee Bend quilt collection all that is left to do is quilt it. I would like to try quilting in straight lines like Nancy Crow

5. This was started 2 years ago at the Anchorage Fiber Festival where I took a class from Kathyanne White, my BFF. I love this piece it has digital images, printed can metal and I beaded the heck out of it. I just need to finish it or it could be finished I just need to go shopping for a frame.

Finally

6. Is a class I took from a local teacher from the Quilted Symphony book. All it needs is binding, hanger and label-- what's stopping me

Here it is my top 6 project that I have to have done by the time 2013 rolls in---- wish me luck

Done 2/12/12

Welcome 2012--- Sorry I arrived late to the party

I have decided to document my creative journey this year. My goal it to do something creative each week. I am giving me time to step away from work and loved ones and give myself a few hours of creativity.

Here I go putting my goals in words:

To spend time each week expressing my creativity
Keep a blog documenting my year of creativity
To try to use stuff out of my magic room ( the room that all beautiful work begins)

Time to start Tapping into my creative Artist
